Christmas Food and Clothing Collection for the Homeless

While we start compiling a long shopping list preparing for the ‘perfect’ Christmas there are many who simply can’t afford the basics, never mind the luxuries.

Every October Oatlands Community Group will organise a collection for the Harrogate Homeless Project and Harrogate Food Bank. To find out the date and venue of this years collection visit our events page.

The Harrogate Homeless project would welcome gifts (unwrapped) of hats, scarves, gloves, underwear and toiletries to wrap and give to those taking refuge with them over Christmas and both organisations would greatly appreciate donations of non perishable foods, Christmas extras that we possibly take for granted being able to afford like table crackers and advent calendars and everyday basics.

We are also collecting donations for another local cause MST CAN (multi systemic therapy for child abuse and neglect) they work with families to support and treat all members to prevent children from going into care. They work closely with Leeds Children’s Charity. They are currently trying to put together Christmas presents for children that they help, they are all ages, little toys, cars, dolls and toiletries would be very gratefully received.  Any clean bedding, towels and clothing would also be a great help.

We would also like  to encourage local residents to take part in our ‘Alternative Advent Calendar’. On each day of December whilst opening a door on your advent calendar or instead of having a traditional advent calendar, you could donate an item to a hamper in your home. You can then add to the hamper, to help the homeless and needy at the beginning of the new year. Oatlands Community Group will arrange a drop off point somewhere in our community in January.
